UpToCode is a free website supported with funding from the national Legal Services Corporation and developed by Northeast Legal Aid and LemmaLegal with input from partner legal services organizations. It is hosted, together with MADE, by Greater Boston Legal Services. UpToCode was originally authored by Quinten Steenhuis in 2021 in partnership with Massachusetts Law Reform Institute as part of the COVID Eviction Legal Help Project, which was administered by the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation and funded through the Department of Housing and Community Development. Chelsea community organization La Colaborativa played a special role in the co-design, piloting and language accessibility of UpToCode, and funded its Spanish translation.
